  • Walking Group

The Walking Group undertakes easy 5-6 km walks, ending up with lunch at a local pub or cafe.

The walks are designed to be accessible to people of all fitness levels, ensuring that everyone can participate and enjoy the experience.

The social aspect of the walk is just as important as the physical exercise, as it fosters a sense of community and belonging among our group members.

After completing our 5-6 km walk, we gather at a local pub or cafe to refuel and recharge.

In Ray’s absence, Matthew Etty-Leal has kindly offered to lead our October walk.   It is on Wednesday 15th October when we will meet at the Balwyn Baptist Church, 517 Whitehorse Road Balwyn (Melway 46 F8) from 10.00am. At about 10:15, we will start walking west. There will be frequent stops at street corners when Matthew describes historical buildings, parks, events, activities, notable shops, schools, churches ... The walk is very flat along Whitehorse Road finishing at May Street. We often walk a short distance north or south of Whitehorse Road. The walk takes about 90 minutes - around two kilometres. For those wanting a longer walk, please keep on walking from May Street to Burke Road…!

Matthew is President of the Balwyn Historical Society (BHS) and asks for a donation of $5 per head (cash please) to purchase a portable audio set for future walks.

Lunch:  Stranger café (corner Cherry Road), formerly Balwyn Church of Christ built 1922.

As always, all members, visitors and wives/partners are welcome.   If you did not put your name on the sheet at the general meeting, please notify Matthew by phone or email ettyleal@bigpond.net.au to register your attendance.
